'I am sure he would go' - Exclusive: Mills reacts to major Sane-Liverpool transfer update

Danny Mills has claimed Leroy Sane would not turn down a move to Liverpool if the opportunity presented itself despite playing for title rivals Manchester City.

The former Leeds United and City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted the rivalry between the Premier League’s top two is still far off that of the Reds and Manchester United.

Bild’s Christian Falk revealed this week that Jurgen Klopp is interested in signing the 24-year-old but claims the winger would not move to Anfield because of his respect for City fans.

Falk claims that Bayern Munich have already reserved their number 10 shirt, currently worn by Phillipe Coutinho, for the arrival of the attacker.

Sane is about to enter the final year of his contract at the Etihad and will be available on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

When asked by Football Insider if ties to Manchester City would stop the German moving to Anfield at the end of his contract, Mills said: “Clubs do not want to sell to their immediate rivals and that is normally the biggest problem.

“If Liverpool want Sane I am pretty sure he would go there given the opportunity. Why wouldn’t you?

“We have seen players do far worse.

“It is not a Manchester United-Liverpool or a Leeds-Manchester United. The rivalry is not of that ilk.”

The Germany international is yet to feature this season having suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the Community Shield last August.

Sane has scored 39 goals and provided 45 assists in his 134 appearances for Manchester City since arriving from Schalke in 2016.
