Manager Rafa Benitez has given a hesitant update on Newcastle’s transfer business, stating he doesn’t know what the club’s position is at the moment.
The Magpies have brought in as many as six new players this summer, but that has not stopped them from falling to two defeats in their opening two Premier League matches.
Sunday saw them fall to a 1-0 defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium against fellow promoted club Huddersfield and many are now keen to see the north east giants strengthen their squad.
However, after being asked for an update on the the club’s transfer business Benitez was less than assured, stating the club are working behind the scenes, but he is unsure whether any deals are close to completion.
Benitez’ quotes were covered by Sky Sports reporter Bryan Swanson via his personal Twitter account after the defeat against the Terriers.

Newcastle’s two defeats has seen them place in 17th with only goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone.
The update will have of course disappointed fans following the results with many keen to see the club strengthen soon before they fall further into danger of being relegated.
The Magpies will play Nottingham Forest next in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening before then taking on West Ham next Saturday, who have also fallen to two defeats in their first two league matches.
In other Newcastle transfer news, a Premier League manager could be willing to listen to offers for this Magpies forward target.
