Ian Wright makes bold claim about the current Liverpool side

By Harvey Byrne

Ian Wright has made the bold claim that the current Liverpool team are the best he’s seen in years, better than the one containing Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez.

The Reds are currently sat in second in the Premier League table with six points separating them from league leaders Chelsea.

The Merseyside giants enjoyed their best season for a number of years in 2014 under Brendan Rodgers, where they finished as runners-up in the league with both Gerrard and Suarez playing key roles.

However, BBC pundit Wright believes that the current Liverpool team are better than the one which won 84 points two years a go.

“They’ve moved on from that,” said Wright on BBC Radio 5 Live to a fan wanting the club to bring Gerrard back in a playing capacity.

“The way Liverpool are playing now with Jordan Henderson leading them is as good as I’ve seen them for years, even the Gerrard and Suarez season.”

Liverpool have finished in the top four just twice since 2008 with the club moving as low as eighth two times in 2012 and 2016.

It is well below the standards a club the size of Liverpool will have been expecting and Jurgen Klopp is now looking to return the English giants to past glories.

The Reds are currently well on course to finish in the top four with seven points separating them from fifth, while they will also have their eyes on their first Premier League title.

Klopp and his team will now be preparing for a difficult clash against third placed Manchester City coming up at Anfield on Saturday.
