Ibrox Exclusive: McNamara suggests Rangers player struggling to live up to 'Hype'

Jackie McNamara suggested that Rangers attacker Sheyi Ojo was finding it difficult to live up to his own hype.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Scotland international pointed out there was a lot of hype around the 22-year-old at the start of the season but acknowledged the winger was currently struggling to feature.

Ojo has failed to play more than 40 minutes in his last four league outings and played no part in the Gers’ last two games against Motherwell and Celtic.

McNamara explained that Ojo’s downfall could be down to others stepping up rather than a failure on his part, but admitted he needed to prove himself to Steven Gerrard.

When asked about Ojo’s minutes starting to dry up, McNamara told Football Insider: “He’s started the season with a lot of hype around him and maybe because of Kent coming back and a few others, he hasn’t featured a lot lately.

“Gerrard seems to have a settled team and he seems to be finding it difficult to break into the team, which could be down to him or those ahead of him.

“He has to deal with it and show Gerrard he’s a starter.”

The 22-year-old attacker arrived at Ibrox in the summer with him joining the Gers on a season-long loan from Premier League giants Liverpool.

Ojo has consistently been loaned out by the Reds with him having temporary spells at the likes of Fulham and Stade Reims.

The winger joined the Merseyside giant in November 2011 from MK Dons but has only managed to appear 13 times for their first-team.
