Rangers have agreed to pay the entirety of Florian Kamberi's wages after sealing a last-gasp January signing, Football Insider understands.

The Glasgow giants announced last night with a statement 45 minutes before the transfer cut-off they had sealed the capture of the striker from Hibernian on loan for the rest of the season.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club will pay Kamberi's Hibs salary during the loan but the costs will be offset by Greg Docherty moving to Edinburgh in a swap.

The 23-year-old has headed to Easter Road for the remainder of the campaign after struggling to make an impression on Steven Gerrard’s midfield.

Kamberi is believed to be on a higher salary than Docherty and the additional cost to Rangers in salary is over £100,000.

That would prove to be excellent value if Kamberi, 24, makes an impact as Gerrard's side chase domestic and European glory.

He has been signed after Jermain Defoe sustained a midweek injury that is set to sideline him until March.

Kamberi is a centre-forward with eight goals in 27 appearances for Hibernian this season.

He was even more effective in his debut campaign last term, when his 43 matches yielded 13 goals and seven assists.
