Paul Robinson admitted he was surprised that Aston Villa have made a move for Eddie Nketiah as he thought Arsenal would keep the forward.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-England No.1 shared he thought Nketiah was a top player who’d fit in well at Villa Park.
However, Robinson then suggested that Dean Smith needed to add proven goalscorers to his squad given they’re in a relegation battle.
When asked about the Villians submitting a bid for Nketiah, Robinson told Football Insider: “He’s a top player, I’m actually surprised Arsenal aren’t keeping him with Arteta assessing his squad.
“He could get some kind of game time at Arsenal, but it just shows how highly regarded he is.
“I think he’ll fit in well at Villa but the problem is Villa need proven goalscorers and they need them now especially after yesterday.
“But they need a guaranteed goalscorer who is going to fire them to safety.”
Nketiah spent the first half of this season on loan in the Championship with Leeds United and managed to score three goals in 17 league appearances for them.
The 20-year-old attacker saw his loan spell cut-short with the Whites in January as he never managed to nail down a regular first-team spot in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club are planning to sell senior player this month despite recent heroics.
