Former Manchester United player Alan Brazil has admitted that he has been blown away by Andy Robertson’s performances for Liverpool this season, heaping praise on him for his “immense” outing against Everton in the FA Cup last week.
Robertson, 23, had been in and out of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans since moving to Anfield from Hull in the summer, but injury to Alberto Moreno saw the Scotland international boosted into a regular fixture at left-back.
Although Virgil van Dijk captured all the headlines with a winning goal in a Merseyside derby just days after completing his £75million move from Southapmton, TalkSport host Brazil saw it fit to commend Robertson for his outing.
The ex-Scotland international believes that Liverpool fans were left delighted by the former Hull defender, and even suggested that he should continue to start at left-back for Scotland over Celtic’s prized-possession Kieran Tierney.
“Kopites who really know football were also drooling over Robertson’s performance,” said Brazil on the Sunday Post website.
“There’s only one word to describe the 23-year-old’s performance at left-back – immense.”
He added: “It will also be terrific for Scotland.
“Anybody who knows me knows I’m a huge Kieran Tierney fan.
“The Celtic star is an incredible wee player already, with the potential to become even better.
“But if Andy Robertson is shining for Liverpool in the Premier League and the Champions League, he has to start at left-back for Scotland.”
Robertson has made just 11 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season since he was snapped up from Hull, who had been relegated with the Scot as one of their stand-out performers.
He had started seven Premier League games in a row before he was benched for the win against Burnley on New Year’s Day, but could be back in the fold to take on Manchester City on Sunday.
In other Liverpool news, this defensive colossus wanted by the Reds is on the verge of a £20million switch.
