'Impossible task' - Exclusive: Darren Bent hits out at 'Harsh' critics of Newcastle 26yo
Darren Bent claims that Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron has an almost “impossible task” to produce regularly in the final third.
The former Aston Villa and Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says it would take a “harsh” individual to criticise the 26-year-old as he works his socks off for the Magpies.
Almiron went 10 months without assisting or scoring a goal for the north east outfit, with four strikes across all competitions now under his belt.
However, despite a lack of product in the attacking third of the pitch, Bent has hit back at his critics as he is a willing runner who gives his all for the cause.
Bent told Football Insider: “He went through a little period where he struggled at first but I think it is so hard to criticise somebody when they work so hard for their team.
“You can label criticism if they’re not putting a shift in, if someone’s not putting a shift in and they’re not producing the goods, you’re well within your rights to have a go.

“What goes against him is the fee, the fee Newcastle paid for him, but I do think when you’ve got someone who works as hard as he does, you’ve got to be a harsh man to criticise him.
“Him and Saint-Maximin, they way they get forward, it’s almost an impossible task and I think they’ve done it okay. You have to get a little bit more production from him in the final third but because he’s putting him a shift in, that will endear him to any football fan.”
Almiron has four goals and a single assist to his name since joining from Atlanta United back in January 2019.
In other Newcastle United news, Bent has ripped into a Magpies powerhouse who “needs to have a look at himself.”
