'Impossible to turn down' - Celtic legend delivers verdict on future of Hoops star
Former Celtic legend John Hartson hopes that the club are able to keep Moussa Dembele at the club next season, but accepts that a huge bid might force the club to sell him in the summer.
Hartson believes that if the Hoops were offered £25million for the 21-year-old then they would have to consider selling him.
“There are none of us here who are privy to whether or not he will still be at Celtic come the end of August. If the club receive a £25m offer for a player they paid £500k for then it is, frankly, impossible to turn down” Hartson said, writing in his column in the Evening Times.
“Right now the French striker is actively for sale and I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if there was a major bid that came in for him this summer because he is an outstanding striker who has the potential to play at the very top level.
“That isn’t me chasing him out the door but just being realistic.”
Dembele has been the subject of plenty of speculation about his Hoops future, with the Scottish Sun reporting that the Hoops turned down a £12million bid for the player from Brighton in January.

The first thing to say on the matter is that Celtic will not want to sell Moussa Dembele this summer, at least not whilst they are still in the middle of the Champions League qualifiers. Dembele will be a vitally important player for the Hoops in those games, even if Odsonne Edouard signs on a permanent deal or not. However, as John Hartson says, a bid of £25million would be too much for the Hoops board to turn down, even if it comes during the aforementioned qualifiers. The chances of the Bhoys receiving a bid as high as the one Hartson mentions doesn’t seem very high at the moment, as Dembele struggled with form and injury in his second season with the Hoops. Perhaps a bid of £15million seems more realistic, but the Hoops board might well consider that as not high enough. If Demeble is still with the Hoops at the end of August the club will have done well to keep him longer than most people will have expected.
