Major update on O'Kane and his Leeds future after devastating injury blow
Forgotten midfielder Eunan O'Kane will head out of Leeds United for good when his contract expires next month, Football Insider understands.
The 30-year-old has no chance of securing an extension and faces a major battle to save his career after two-and-a-half years of injury hell.
O'Kane has not played since October 2018 due to the complications of the horrific double leg fracture he suffered when at Luton during his first loan.
The Republic of Ireland international was lured to Kenilworth Road on loan for the first time in August 2018.
He broke down with injury two months later but then re-signed for Luton on a new 18-month loan in January 2020.
O'Kane had relocated to the south-east with his family and had been expected to be a key player for the Championship minnows.
But he has not played a single match during his second loan spell and remains sidelined going into the final league fixture of the season on Sunday.
Manager Nathan Jones has spoken warmly of O'Kane and had hoped he could have a role to play this season.
But Luton have comfortably survived Championship relegation - they are 12th in the table - without the player who was a regular at Leeds under Garry Monk and Thomas Christiansen.
O'Kane will not add to his 58 United appearances, the last of which came against QPR in May 2018.
The midfielder, who has been capped seven times by Ireland, now faces a huge battle to reignite his professional career.
