Injury expert makes Konate claim as Milner issues 'angry' verdict on Liverpool teammate
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must listen to James Milner and rotate Virgil van Dijk as he continues to recover from a long-term knock.
That is according to injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine as well as data analysis.
Milner was quoted by Liverpool Echo (20 September) as saying Van Dijk “needs looking after” following his return from injury.
The veteran insisted Klopp must rotate the defender even if he gets “angry” with the situation.
Dinnery insists Van Dijk needs to recognise his own limits after such a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“A return to play is rarely black and white,” Dinnery told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“There is a wider circle in and around this. If you ask Van Dijk now, can I play two or three games a week? He would say yes, 100%, no question.
“He’s a footballer, that’s what he does. Klopp needs to consider the risks of that thought. He missed 10 months. He also needs to look at the squad in general.
“If you are Konate, the big summer signing, and you are seeing a player coming back from injury starting ahead of you. You will be questioning why you aren’t being given the opportunity.
“Rotation is key, not just for injured players but for players you want to play later on. Match conditions cannot be recreated on the training pitch.
“Do they need to risk Van Dijk when they have other options there to come in?
“What we do know is the more exposure you have, the more injuries you will get.”
