Insider backs Tottenham to re-hire 'outstanding' McKenna and claims he should come back 'in a heartbeat'

Tottenham should “pull out all the stops” to re-hire Kieran McKenna if he departs Manchester United.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

McKenna, 35, is a first-team coach at Old Trafford and has been assisting Michael Carrick following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal.

He was previously the Under-18s manager at Tottenham and, according to Wenham, was a highly respected member of staff.

On 22 November, the Dail Mail reported some Man United stars feel McKenna is “dry and school-teacherly” and does not command respect.

Wenham wants to see Tottenham go all out to re-hire McKenna if he ever departs Man United.

“I’ve seen a lot of Man United fans blaming Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna for the issues at the club,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I saw that quite heavily but if McKenna ever became available, which isn’t out of the question with all the changes, I would take him back at Tottenham in an absolute heartbeat.

“He was an outstanding youth coach for us.

“I know loads of the players like him. He was a big part of our academy and he’s very well respected by the club.

“If Man Utd did sack him for any reason, I would hope the club pull out all the stops to appoint him as our head of youth development.

“I’ll say it again, he is an outstanding coach.”
