Insider: Scarlett and Devine set for 'big chance' at Tottenham as 'unusual' plan revealed

Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine will be dropped into the Tottenham Under 18 side for their FA Youth Cup clash against Ipswich next week.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Scarlett and Devine, 17, both have senior Tottenham appearances to their names.

Scarlett has featured three times in the Europa Conference League this season while Devine scored in last season’s FA Cup win over Marine.

Both players have featured heavily for Tottenham’s Under 23 side this season as they continue their development.

However, Wenham expects both players will be made available to the Under 18 side for their FA Youth Cup game against Ipswich.

“Dane Scarlett was on the bench against Norwich,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Alfie Devine also returned for the Under 23s in yet another comprehensive victory over Manchester City.

“I would actually expect those two players to be dropped into our FA Youth Cup game against Ipswich.

“They are both 17 so are eligible for that game and players of that age are encouraged to play in that competition.

“Jamie Donley is injured so he will miss that game. I expect they will be made available for that game.

“It might sound unusual but I think it’s vital for their development, I’m sure the club see it that way too.

“It will also be a stern test because Ipswich are very good at that level. It’s a big chance for them to shine.”

Tottenham are due to face Ipswich on 16 December.

The game could be in doubt following Spurs’ ongoing Covid outbreak.
