Insider: Tottenham have terminated contract of award-winning sensation in 'strange move'
John Wenham insists injuries are to blame after Tottenham decided to release youth player Axel Piesold.
Spurs insider Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels, claims the timing of Spurs’ decision is “strange”.
Wenham exclusively revealed on 13 November that Tottenham have released Piesold, 16 early into his scholarship contract.
As of yet, there has been no confirmation over Piesold’s situation from the club although that is not uncommon for their academy players.
Wenham has lifted the lid on the “strange” circumstances surrounding Piefold’s release.
“I was told he has been released,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I noticed he hasn’t made a single matchday squad not just in the Under 18s season but in the summer friendlies as well.
“For whatever reason, it hasn’t worked out for him. It is slightly strange to see Tottenham make that move in November.
“I was actually told he was released a couple of weeks ago. It could be that Tottenham want to give him the chance to find a new club before July.
“At the end of the day, there is no point in keeping a player who isn’t going to play.
“It was only a couple of years ago he was competing in Under 14s tournaments all over the world.
“He was winning player of the tournament awards I seem to remember.
“So it shows how a few injuries can change the course of a player’s future.
“I wish him all the best.”
