Insider: Tottenham tipped to pull off 'amazing' Eriksen transfer in January after Conte update

Tottenham should make an “amazing” bid to bring Christian Eriksen back to the club with Antonio Conte set to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

A Tottenham source told Football Insider on Monday morning that a deal to bring Conte to Spurs is “very close” and updated at lunchtime on Monday that senior Spurs stars have been told he will take training on Tuesday morning after agreeing to be the new manager.

Nuno was sacked by Tottenham on Monday after a 3-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday.

The Telegraph (29 October) claim a Premier League return could be on the cards for Eriksen, 29.

They report Italian health rules are stopping the attacker from making a playing return with Inter Milan after suffering a cardiac event duirng Euro 2020.

Eriksen has an implantable cardioverter defibrillator fitted to his body and Wenham claims Tottenham’s lawyers should be looking at whether he could make a sensational return to his former club.

“If Conte comes in, there is one transfer I would love to see,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’m just speculating here. Would Christian Eriksen fancy coming back?

“There is a story going around about him not being allowed to play in Italy.

“Obviously it’s amazing that we can even talk about him coming back because what happened to him during the Euros was awful.

“Tottenham should be exploring that and how it could work. If I could bring back one former player from the last 10 years, he’s the man.

“I hope Tottenham are looking into that and have the lawyers doing their due diligence on whether that would be possible.

“I would watch out for this one.”
