Insider: Tottenham will demand £15m De Vrij discount as source shares 'very keen' news

Stefan de Vrij is a “realistic” signing Tottenham could pull off in January.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Football Insider revealed earlier today that De Vrij, 29, has told friends he is “very keen” in joining Tottenham in January and has asked for more information on the club.

De Vrij has made 15 total appearances for Inter this season and is understood to be valued at around £40million.

His contract is also set to expire in the summer of 2023.

For this reason, Wenham claims Tottenham would look for a discounted price to agree a deal for one of Conte’s former players.

“De Vrij was a key part of Conte’s Scudetto-winning Inter side,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s clearly a player Conte trusts. if he does want De Vrij then that is a deal I can see us doing.

“He’s an international player with 55 caps, he’s a trophy winner and he’s an instant improvement on Ben Davies.

“The £40million fee is a bit steep for a player who doesn’t have that long left on his contract.

“I think Tottenham would look for a discount there, a £25million deal seems fair to me.

“Especially if you look at his age as well. He is a more realistic signing.

“If Conte really wants him then the club have to back that decision.”

In other news, Premier League 28-year-old will be “first through the door at Tottenham in January” as new signing lined up.
