Rangers’ interest in signing defensive pair Connor Goldson and Kyle Bartley “is real,” according to a club insider, as Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox revolution steps up a gear ahead of the Liverpool legend officially taking charge on June 1st.
According to Four Lads Had A Dream on Twitter, who have a great record of breaking news from the Ibrox giants, the Light Blues are keen to bring both players and director of football Mark Allen could “ramp up” the Gers’ interest this week.
“Not really, interest is real and it wouldn’t surprise me if we ramped up interest in him & Goldson this week. Neither deal is close but interest certainly there. Ones to watch,” they said, on Twitter in response to a fan asking if there was any update on Bartley’s proposed return to Ibrox.
Football Insider verdict:
This is good news for the Gers as they look to rebuild their side after another disappointing season. Getting new defenders in should be a priority for the Light Blues and the signings of Bartley and Goldson would be a huge step in the right direction. Getting both in would make sense for the Gers as Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso both look like they are on the way out this summer after poor debut seasons at Ibrox. The Light Blues transfer targets this summer have been impressive and look to be a marked improvement in quality than the existing players in the squad and should help Gerrard’s side take a massive step closer to bitter rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership. Bartley knows what it takes to be a title winner at Rangers and with the defender at the peak of his career it is a signing that seems to be a bit more thought out than some of the other ex-Gers who have been linked with a return in recent years.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club are in hot pursuit of a 6’4″ colossus who could be signing of the season.
