Tottenham centre-back Federico Fazio could be on his way to Italy after emerging as a target for Roma, according to a report.

Italian website ForzaRoma now claim that the three-time Serie A winners are keen to sign Fazio, as manager Luciano Spalletti looks to solve the Giallorossi's centre-back crisis.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo did claim that the 29-year-old was ready to move to La Liga side Espanyol after settling a four-year contract, but a fee wasn't agreed between the clubs.

This has opened the door for Roma, who are desperate to sign a centre-back after allowing Leandro Castan to join Serie A rivals Sampdoria, while Erkin Zukanovic has joined Atalanta on-loan.

Doubts still remain over Greek defender Kostas Manolas, who has been linked with a £37million to Europe’s heavyweights.

Fazio, who joined Tottenham from Spanish club Sevilla in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee of £8 million, has two more years to run on his contract with the north Londoners.

The centre-back struggled for game time in his second season at Spurs and was loaned out to his former club Sevilla in the January transfer window.

But Fazio was also a bit-part player in Spain and played just four times in La Liga and only twice in the Europa League during his loan spell at Sevilla, and a move to Roma could reignite his faltering career.
