West Ham have a new signing “up their sleeve” as Sebastien Haller closes in on a move to Ajax, according to Darren Bent.
The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed there is no way the Hammers would let the 26-year-old leave east London without having a replacement in the pipeline.
As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday, West Ham gave Haller the green light to head to Amsterdam and undergo a medical to complete a £20million move to the Dutch giants.
This site has since detailed how the Irons are keen to replace the 2019 signing with a proven forward and are readying a bid for Bournemouth’s Josh King.
However, Bent has revealed he has heard rumours a striker deal may already be close to completion amid Haller’s seemingly rapid exit from the London Stadium.
“It surprised me a little bit they’re letting him go in this climate,” Bent told Football Insider.
“I’ve heard rumours that they’ve got someone else that they’re going to bring in.
“I would have waited until the summer but obviously David Moyes has someone in line, I’m guessing Haller is desperate to go, it hasn’t quite worked out for him.
“They must have something up their sleeve to be allowing this to happen.”
Haller, who cost the Hammers £45million back in 2019, is set to leave east London with a total of 14 goals and 53 appearances under his belt.
He managed to net seven times in the first half of the current campaign, including a tremendous overhead kick in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
