Noel Whelan is adamant Patrick Bamford will start for Leeds United against Luton Town on Tuesday despite being subbed off at half-time in the win against Fulham.
The former Leeds and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, tipped the 26-year-old to score for the second consecutive game at Elland Road tomorrow night.
Bamford gave Leeds the lead on Saturday – an accomplished finish with the inside of his left-foot to silence his critics after an uncharacteristic performance in the loss to Cardiff.
However, despite his goal, Marcelo Bielsa opted to replace the Englishman at half-time with Fulham in the ascendancy towards the latter stages of the first half.
Whelan claimed the goal will give the striker a much needed shot of confidence.
“The spotlight was on him again after the restart against Cardiff,” he told Football Insider.
“That was not his best game. He was not effective and he did not look like the aggressive Patrick Bamford that works the line. But he looked like that in the first half at times against Fulham despite a lack of service.
“It would be difficult for me to put down his performance when he was only on the pitch 45 minutes and he got the vital goal. He took the goal with quality and calmness. A side-foot strike that has got him up and running again for the final push.
“Striker’s like Patrick go on bursts of goals so I would not be surprised if he gets another one against Luton on Tuesday. It will do him the world of good.
“I have no doubt he will start against Luton. That is just the way it is.”
