Celtic fans have taken to social media to revel over the news that Graeme Murty has been named Rangers’ permanent manager until the end of the season.

The Hoops’ fierce rivals revealed on Friday via their official Twitter account and website that the former youth team coach, who had taken on the role as caretaker manager following Pedro Caixinha’s sacking, would be taking on the position full time until the end of the current campaign.

The 43-year-old has been in temporary charge of the club since Caixinha left at the end of October, leaving Ibrox after less than a year in the dugout.

His appointment as permanent boss had Celtic’s fans in stitches, and they took to Twitter to poke fun at their local rivals, many suggesting that it was a deflection tactic after the latest news on Dave King.

Since taking temporary charge, Murty has overseen nine games at Ibrox, winning nine and suffering defeat in the other three, with his first match as permanent boss coming in Saturday’s away trip to Kilmarnock.

His first taste of the fierce rivalry between Celtic and Rangers as manager will come at the end of the year, with the Old Firm derby being held at Celtic Park on the 30th December.
