James Garner is surely now set to leave Everton after two confirmed developments
James Garner could be set to leave Everton this summer after he was snubbed for England’s World Cup squad.
The midfielder only made his international debut in March, but would have been hopeful amid a superb season for the Toffees.
The 25-year-old has a near ever-present for David Moyes, having featured for all but six minutes of every game Everton have played.
Garner signed a new contract in January, but his fresh terms have done nothing to quieten the talk surrounding his future.
Everton transfer chiefs will be braced for potential offers this summer, with interest in the midfielder mounting.

Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Everton were relaxed about Garner’s future, and understandably so.
The 25-year-old is on a long-term deal, had just made his debut for England and was in a race for European football.

Events since then have changed the situation quite significantly, however. Everton have failed to win any of their last six Premier League games, with defeat to Sunderland last week leaving little to no chance of European football.
The Toffees were ahead in the latter stages against Manchester City and Crystal Palace, and took the lead against Sunderland – just two extra points from one of those games would have been crucial.
But achieving European football was only a dream that developed midway through the season. Garner’s England snub may weigh more heavily on his mind.
The 25-year-old has shown no indication that he would be willing to leave Everton, much the opposite, in fact.
However, any English player who plays for a club outside of the big six must eventually come to terms with the fact that playing for one of them substantially improves their chance of making the squad.
‘Gutted’ Garner takes to social media
Garner took to Instagram following confirmation of the England squad, sharing an Everton post which displayed his impressive stats from the season.
“Gutted is an understatement. Good luck to the boys,” he wrote. At just 25, the midfielder will likely have another chance to make a World Cup squad in 2030.

Another disappointed Everton player will be Jarrad Branthwaite. The defender would have been well in contention for the squad, had he not suffered another big injury.
He will hope to return ahead of next season, with both players already having their sights on the 2028 European Championships.
