Jermaine Jenas has warned Tottenham that European giants like Barcelona and Real Madrid will soon be turning their attention to star midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The 25-year-old showcased a series of dazzling displays last season for Spurs and continued that trend on Sunday when he supplied two assists in his side’s 2-0 win at Newcastle.

The Independent has recently reported that Barca are looking at the Denmark international after Liverpool asserted that Philippe Coutinho would not be up for sale this summer.

It was understood that the La Liga titans would have to spend over £100million to try and prise Eriksen away from north London, and BBC Sport pundit Jenas believes that is certainly a possibility for the future if he continues his top form.

“Rightly so,” said Jenas when told of Barcelona’s reported interest in Eriksen on Match of the Day 2 on Sunday, as shown on the programme’s official Twitter account. “You have to look at Christian Eriksen’s progression and it’s very similar to someone like Luka Modric.

“Erkisen obviously had a good time at Ajax, he was a young player, he came to Spurs and he’s developed and he’s developed into a player of importance.

“You can see that the big clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona will be circling soon.”

Dele Alli and Ben Davies managed to get the goals for Mauricio Pochettino’s side as they got their 2017/18 Premier League campaign off to a fine start against a Newcastle team that finished the game with 10 men thanks to Jonjo Shelvey’s red card.

England international Alli is largely touted as one of the most promising players in top-flight and that has led the Sunday Express to claim that Barcelona are also looking to snap him up this summer in the wake of Neymar’s £198million move to Paris St. Germain.

In other Tottenham news, Garth Crooks has hailed this “fragile” Spurs player for his performance against Newcastle – but it wasn’t debutant Kyle Walker-Peters.
