Arsenal drop huge hint about attacker exit after new squad numbers released

By Harry Sykes

Arsenal have announced their squad numbers for next season and dropped a big hint that one of their attackers will be leaving.

New striker signing Alexandre Lacazette got the number nine shirt previously held by Lucas Perez, with Perez getting the 28 shirt.

However, Joel Campbell has not been assigned a number and it’s a clear hint that his time at Arsenal is coming to an end.

Campbell joined Arsenal from Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa in 2011 for £850k,  but despite showing flashes of promise he’s never delivered for the Arsenal first team.

He spent the last season on loan at Sporting CP where he didn’t cover himself in glory, scoring just three goals in 29 appearances.

That just about keeps pace with his Arsenal record though, where he has four goals in 40 appearances.

At the age of 25, it looks like manager Arsene Wenger has finally run out of patience with Campbell and he looks to have played his last match for the north London club.

Elsewhere, new signing Sead Kolasinac has been given the number 31 shirt, while Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have the number seven and 11 shirts respectively.

Arsenal fans will hope this is still the case come the end of August.
