The coaching staff at Tottenham have high hopes for the future of 17-year-old midfielder Oliver Skipp and he is perhaps the club’s hottest prospect, according to a reliable journalist.
Alasdair Gold, the Tottenham reporter for football website football.london, revealed in his blog of his time in Germany for the Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund that the youngster is highly thought of by the club, describing him as the “perfect Pochettino player”.
It is said that the Tottenham manager himself is keeping an eye on the midfielder’s progress through the youth ranks, having played for under-18s, 19s and under-23 matches, and that his energy and ball control set him up well for a future at the club, comparing him to this season’s revelation Harry Winks.
However Gold noted that the players’ personality – mature and down to earth – means that he fits the template of the player Pochettino is looking to bring through the club.
Since breaking into the youth ranks, Skipp has continued to rise through the various levels beneath the senior side, and despite his age he has not turned out once for the under-18 side this season.
Instead he has been a regular fixture in both the under-19s, starting every game in the UEFA Youth League, including the 3-1 win over Dortmund on Tuesday, as well as the under 23-s for the Premier League 2 competition.
In other Tottenham news, Paul Merson has said that there is one Arsenal star who is better than every Spurs player.
