Jurgen Klopp confirms extent of injury to Liverpool star player after win v Man City
Record signing Virgil Van Dijk missed today’s crucial Premier League fixture versus Manchester City, amidst rumours of a tight hamstring.
Following the game, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Van Dijk was carrying a light injury, and he did not want to risk worsening the situation.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, as quoted by Ben Dinnery on his Twitter page, Klopp stated that Van Dijk had picked up a knock in the FA Cup clash against local rivals Everton.
Klopp confirms van Dijk is "a little bit injured" with the centre-back due to return next weekend. "It was immediately after the [Everton] game he felt a little bit. We made an assessment. If it’s the last game of the season maybe you take the risk, but it’s not." #LFC pic.twitter.com/DifExUD4Xp

Liverpool fans will be delighted to know that the injury is not reported to be serious, and Klopp expects the Netherlands international to be ready to play as early as next weekend.
It seems that the German born manager is nurturing Van Dijk, and does not want to push him too much.
Van Dijk now has a long week to regain his fitness, as the Reds do not play again until Monday the 22nd, when they face Swansea City.
The game is crucial, as Liverpool look to sure up second place in the Premier League, where they currently are being held at bay by Manchester United’s superior goal difference.
