Kalvin Phillips: Pundit 'wowed' after Man City transfer update - 'hell of a fee...you just can't refuse'
Alex McLeish has insisted Leeds United could secure a “hell of a fee” for Kalvin Phillips amid reported interest from Manchester City.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Premier League champions could make an offer the Whites “just can’t refuse” for the 26-year-old.
As revealed by Football Insider (16 May), Newcastle and Aston Villa lead the race to sign Phillips this summer and have already started groundwork on a summer deal.
However, the Times claim (23 May) the Leeds star is now top of Pep Guardiola’s list of targets to replace Fernandinho at City.
McLeish admitted the Whites may struggle to stop a “juggernaut” from prising Phillips away this summer.
However, he insisted the Yorkshire giants could demand a “hefty fee” for his sale.

Reacting to City’s reported interest, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Wow, there will have to be a hell of a fee for him. I don’t see him leaving quite at this moment.
“I don’t know Kalvin, I don’t know his team. The one thing you can’t stop is a juggernaut coming for you. I mean one of the giant teams coming for you and paying the money that you just can’t refuse.
“That is possible. It would need to be hefty, he’s kind of at that status now.”
Phillips still has two years left on the contract he signed back in 2019.
Meanwhile, Fernandinho is set to leave City on a free contract this summer when his terms expire.
