'We have twice tried to buy him' - Brady confirms West Ham approach for in-demand PL striker
By Danny Wright
Karren Brady has said that West Ham have made two attempts to sign Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
The Hammers’ vice-chairwoman revealed that they were snubbed in their efforts to sign the striker because he is eager to pursue his dream of playing in the Champions League.
Chelsea have been hotly linked with re-signing the 23-year-old if Diego Costa quits the club for China in the summer.
Lukaku is the Premier League’s top goal scorer this season and has scored 25 times across all competitions for the Toffees – 24 of them have come in the Premier League.
West Ham are in desperate need of strikers with injuries plaguing their main attacking threats for most of the season.

“We have twice tried to buy him but he wants a club playing Champions’ League football — and quickly,” said Brady in her column on the Sun website.
“You can’t dismiss his ambition but it’s a shame he regards such an admirable club as little more than a stop-over.”
Slaven Bilic is finding himself under increasing pressure at the London Stadium and signing a player like Lukaku would have given his squad a major chance of challenging for European football for the second year in a row.
Instead, the Hammers have been forced to utilise Michail Antonio as a striker for much of the season as Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho has spent long spells on the sidelines with injuries.
Lukaku has recently said he is not going to sign a new deal at Goodison Park and is eager to fulfil his dream of playing in Europe’s most prestigious competition.
Football Insider Verdict
Any Premier League club would take Romelu Lukaku but it’s obvious to everyone but the most hardened Everton fan that the striker is destined for bigger things. At 23 he’s one of the most sought-after strikers in the world and West Ham were going to have to get luckier than a Lottery winner to pick up his signature, although Brady doesn’t say when the club tried to lure him to east London. West Ham fans will hope that Brady shows as much ambition with the rest of West Ham’s summer bids after a fairly disastrous summer last year.
In other West Ham news, the club should launch a raid on their London rivals for this left-back.
