West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady incurred the full wrath of the Hammers fans on Twitter on Monday.
Following confirmation of Dimitri Payet’s departure to Marseille on Sunday evening, Brady took to Twitter on Monday to offer West Ham fans the chance to return their Payet shirts in exchange for a new one, at a discounted cost of £25.
She said on her official Twitter account: “Morning, bring back your Payet shirt to any of the club shops & you will get a new replacement for £25, full details on WHU web site today.”

Brady thought she was doing the West Ham faithful a good service, but the fans – still seething from Payet’s lack of respect for the club – were less than happy with Brady’s offer.
Although some groups were appreciative of Brady’s seemingly harmless offer, others came out in full force to voice their discontent.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Prior to the public outburst that saw Payet refuse to play for West Ham and declare his intention to leave the club, the 29-year-old was a key player.
From 66 appearances, he contributed 18 goals 25 assists, although he struggled to replicate his form from last season into the current campaign.
That said, his lack of respect for the club in forcing a move back to his native France came as a big shock to West Ham fans, who are understandably furious at his actions – regardless of what Brady or any other senior figure at the club have to offer.
