Martin Keown: This emerging Everton talent will be a huge star, compares to club legend
By Matt Bullin
Former Arsenal and England defender Martin Keown has given a glowing verdict on the future of Everton midfielder Tom Davies, and compared him to club legend Tim Cahill.
Davies netted his second Premier League goal as Everton beat Leicester 4-2 at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Speaking on BBC 1’s Match of the Day 2 (Sunday 10.30pm) Keown compared Davies to former Everton star Tim Cahill, who scored 68 goals in 271 appearances for the club.
Keown said: “Everton have not had a real box-to-box midfielder since Tim Cahill left, but Davies can be the man to provide that.
“He has a competitive streak, and after he signed a new five-year deal, he could be a huge star.”

The 18-year-old has now scored two goals and provided three in his 18 Premier League appearances this season.
Davies’ second Premier League goal came after just 30 seconds in the game against Leicester on Sunday as he finished off Kevin Mirallas’ run, by sweeping home.
Everton’s lead did not last long though and the Foxes quickly struck back through Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton to go 2-1 up after 10 minutes.
Romelu Lukaku and Phil Jagielka then both headed home to retake the lead for the Toffees at the break.
Lukaku added his second and Everton’s fourth midway through the second period, wrapping up the win and the three points for his side.
The result leaves Everton in seventh, level on points with Arsenal, although the Gunners do face Crystal Palace tonight.
Davies has also represented England in all age groups up from Under-16s to the Under-19s, who he has nine caps for and one goal.
In other Everton news, Davies posted a message to the fans on Twitter after Everton beat Leicester 4-2.
