Kieran Maguire: New Everton chief may have 'strong links' to Usmanov as statement issued

Everton could replace the outgoing Sarvar Ismailov on the board of directors with another close associate of Alisher Usmanov.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest news from the corridors of power at Goodison.

A club statement on 2 November revealed that Ismailov was stepping aside from his position on the board for “personal and health reasons”.

Ismailov, the nephew of Everton benefactor Usmanov, was made a director in July in addition to his role as commercial executive for Everton Women.

Usmanov has indirectly financed the Toffees through several lucrative sponsorship arrangements in recent years.

Maguire told this site back in June that Usmanov “has the ear” of majority shareholder and trading partner Farhad Moshiri.

And the spreadsheet expert predicts that Everton’s next appointee could also have “strong links” to the Russian billionaire.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Moshiri and Usmanov historically have a good working relationship.

“They have shared history and togetherness in terms of Umsanov’s successful business empire.

“They also have a good relationship in terms of Moshiri selling his Arsenal shares to Usmanov which allowed him to buy Everton.

“If they’re looking for a continuity candidate, it doesn’t have to be someone who is directly or indirectly related to Usmanov.

“It may just be someone with whom he has a previous business relationship or strong links, if that’s the route they want to go down.

“But ultimately, it’s got to be the Everton board’s decision. That’s where the power lies here.”
