Konstantinos Mavropanos: West Ham plan to accept ‘huge’ offer, ‘Nuno will not be happy’

Konstantinos Mavropanos is increasingly likely to leave West Ham United this summer regardless of whether they achieve Premier League survival.

The 28-year-old is believed to be unhappy at the London Stadium despite establishing himself as a key part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s relegation-battling side.

A number of Bundesliga sides are believed to be keeping tabs on his situation, where he previously played for Stuttgart, and a return to Germany could appeal.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Hammers are prepared to see him leave, but will demand a “huge” fee to let him go.

While there is a belief that the Greece international can be replaced, any money from his sale will be reinvested as part of West Ham’s summer transfer plans.

Why could Konstantinos Mavropanos leave West Ham?

Football Insider reported in March that Mavropanos is likely to leave West Ham in the summer, with his recent performances inspiring interest from elsewhere.

If the Hammers fail to achieve Premier League survival, his departure will be inevitable, alongside a number of their other first-team players.

However, Nuno is believed to be unhappy that players are already considering their futures ahead of what is a crucial five-game run-in for the East London club.

“It’s a difficult one for West Ham with Mavropanos,” Brown told Football Insider.

“I’ve had my doubts about him, I don’t think he’s a top-class defender, he’s an accident looking for somewhere to happen, but he’s stepped up recently.

“I have to hold my hands up and say, alongside Axel Disasi, they’ve provided West Ham with a solid foundation and that has seen their form improve.

“But if the talk now is that he wants to leave, West Ham will be prepared to let him go.

“A lot will depend on who West Ham can bring in to replace him, so they’re looking for a huge fee that they can reinvest into the squad.

“If they stay in the Premier League, they’ll be in a better position to do that, but I’ll tell you what, Nuno will not be happy.

“At this stage of the season when they’re fighting for their lives, all of a sudden there’s talk that he’s looking at a move away, that’s not a good sign.”

Why could West Ham be forced to accept offers?

Mavropanos is not the only first-team star eyeing a move away from the London Stadium this summer, as the club could be forced to cash in on key players.

The Hammers have found themselves in a nightmare situation financially after reporting £104million losses and will need to sell players to balance the books.

Brown told Football Insider last month that West Ham may have to sell key players including the likes of Jarrod Bowen in an attempt to raise funds.

Alongside Bowen, there has also been speculation about the long-term futures of Crysencio Summerville and El Hadji Malick Diouf as a result of their financial issues.

Mavropanos’ likely departure would allow the Hammers to balance the books, but he is not expected to be the only player on his way out of East London.
