La Liga expert shares glowing Firpo verdict as Leeds United medical booked

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Barcelona defender Junior Firpo as he nears a move to Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal striker, who delivers weekly punditry for La Liga TV, claimed the 24-year-old will be a “great signing” for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

The latest from a Leeds source is that the Barca left-back has been booked in for a medical ahead of completing a £12.8million move.

Whites sporting director Victor Orta has been spearheading the club’s search for a new left-sided full-back this summer.

Stade Brest’s Romain Perraud and SD Huesca’s Javi Galan have also been considered.

This site revealed yesterday (29th June) that Southampton are closing in on the signing of Perraud after leapfrogging Leeds in the race.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his insight on Firpo, Campbell said: “I watched him a lot last season.

“He is a very promising young player. I think he will be a great signing for Leeds.

“He is young and needs a run of games to realise his potential. Bielsa will give him an opportunity and I think he will take it with both hands.

“If it is to be around £15million, whether that is straight away or on a loan to buy, I think that is good value. I really think he will do well in the Premier League.”
