'His last kick in a Liverpool shirt' - Liverpool fans react on Twitter to shocking Moreno miss

By Matt Bullin

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to show their anger as Alberto Moreno missed an open goal in the closing stages of their 1-0 win over West Brom.

The Reds claimed a vital 1-0 win at the Hawthorns to continue their top four push as Roberto Firmino scored a vital goal in the first half.

But Moreno had a golden opportunity to secure victory in injury time as he broke away into West Brom’s half with an open goal to aim at.

Ben Foster had ventured up for a late Baggies corner, and with Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge breaking alongside him and just one West Brom defender in the way, Moreno decided to shoot and his effort went harmlessly wide.

It was a shocking decision – if he had passed the ball Liverpool would have almost certainly scored and wrapped up the three points there and then. As it was they had to survive a frantic last few minutes with Foster playing as an extra striker.

Moreno had only been substituted on a minute earlier as he replaced Philippe Coutinho, and was making his ninth appearance of the season in the Premier League.

The win leaves Liverpool in third, moving ahead of Manchester City, and restores their two point lead over Pep Guardiola’s side.

Liverpool fans did not take Moreno’s decision to shoot well and displayed their rage on Twitter – although it might have been worse if West Brom had got a late equaliser.
