Revealed: Celtic agree terms of deadline-day signing after late-night talks

Celtic have agreed a deadline-day deal with AC Milan to sign defender Diego Laxalt, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Serie A giants have given the green light for the Neil Lennon’s side to land the left-back following late-night talks.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the terms of a loan deal has been agreed and Laxalt has been granted permission to head to Celtic to complete the move.

It is set to end the Scottish giants’ window-long search for a left-sided defender to strengthen the manager’s options.

Laxalt, 27, is a 24-times Uruguay international who has extensive experience in Serie A.

In addition to 35 appearances for Milan, he has also had a lengthy spell at Genoa and also played for Torino, Bologna and Empoli.

Football Insider revealed Celtic had a £3million bid for Croatia Under-21 international David Colina knocked back by his club Hajduk Split last week.

Talks have also been held with Tottenham about a potential loan deal for Ryan Sessegnon following their £28million signing of Sergio Reguilon.

Celtic have tabled a multi-million loan offer but the Londoners want £5million in fee and wages for the £25million signing from Fulham.

Lennon has made it clear he wanted a left-sided star who can provide cover and competition for Greg Taylor.

Celtic loaned out Boli Bolingoli to Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir earlier this month to free up space in the squad and on the wage bill.

In other news, an “incredible” player has been tipped to replace James Forrest at Celtic after big update.
