Reading midfielder Tyler Sackey has agreed a new three-year deal at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Sackey’s current deal was due to expire later this month, but Reading have moved to tie down the exciting youngster to a new contract.

The 19-year-old is highly regarded at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, and securing his long-term future on a new deal is a huge boost for the Royals.

Capable of playing anywhere from centre-back to attacking midfielder, Sackey has clearly impressed, even making appearances for the senior team.

The teenager faced Swindon Town, West Ham United Under-21s and MK Dons in the EFL Trophy during the 2025-26 campaign, taking his total first-team appearances to seven.

Leam Richardson's squad is filled to the brim with young talent, such as Charlie Savage and Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, and Sackey could soon be added to that group on a regular basis.

Tyler Sackey has Reading breakout to remember

Sackey is likely to be a name that Reading fans become far more familiar with, especially if his last two seasons are anything to go by.

During 2025-26, the 19-year-old made 27 appearances for the club's U21s, having risen through the academy ranks extremely quickly.

He deservedly earned the chance to impress the senior team in 2024-25, and it took him no time at all to score his debut goal for the Royals.

Shortly after coming on against West Ham in the EFL Trophy, Sackey had found the back of the net, doing so again later in the campaign.

Supporters are excited to see how high the youngster's ceiling really is, and they could soon be seeing a lot more of his at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Reading academy graduate has big shoes to fill

The current squad has plenty of competition, so it will take a lot of hard work and dedication to get minutes in the first team in 2026-27.

And the pressure of living up to some of the names that came before him will be pretty huge, given those figures have gone on to do in their careers.

The biggest name of them all is Bayern Munich's Michael Olise, who made 73 appearances before earning a move to Crystal Palace in July 2021.

Now, he's performing on some of the biggest stages for Bayern, notching 42 goals and 46 assists in his first 107 games, while also becoming a regular for the France national team.

No pressure, Sackey.
