Stockport County attacker Adama Sidibeh is understood to be making good progress with his return to fitness, sources have told Football Insider.

Sidibeh sustained a hamstring injury in Stockport's pre-season game against Preston at the start of August, but is already closing in on a return to action.

The 28-year-old's performances last season brought him onto the radar of Championship clubs in this summer's transfer window, and Stockport promised the player they would not stand in his way of playing at a higher level if they received a suitable offer.

Despite the growing interest in his services and his importance to the side, the League One outfit are yet to offer the Gambian international a new deal as reward for his progress.

The powerful and pacy attacker made an instant impact after joining in January, as he notched 10 goals in 25 appearances to help Stockport reach the League One play-off final.

It was feared Sidibeh could be sidelined for a number of weeks, but the player is confident of returning to action sooner than expected and is already back running.

Adama Sidibeh return to spark transfer interest again

Several Championship clubs were strongly interested in Sidibeh at the start of the summer, and Stockport were expecting a battle to keep hold of their star man.

The forward's reputation has sky-rocketed since his move to Edgeley Park, and County were prepared to cash in if the right offer came.

The injury put paid to those hopes, but the initial speculation of a long-term lay-off now appears to be unfounded.

Sidibeh is rapidly closing in on a return to action ahead of schedule, which is sure to have alerted clubs in the second tier.

Time is running out ahead of the 1 September transfer deadline, but with Sidibeh almost back to full fitness, late transfer interest is expected to follow.

Sources: Reading line up move for Wrexham's Dan Scarr

League One rivals eye Championship swoop

Football Insider revealed on Friday that Reading are one of several EFL clubs who are chasing a move to sign Wrexham centre-back Dan Scarr ahead of the deadline.

The Royals are working to strengthen their backline at the last minute, and view the 31-year-old as the ideal addition to Leam Richardson's squad.

Scarr has fallen out of favour at the Racecourse Ground, and is yet to make a competitive appearance for Wrexham so far this season.

Clubs are queuing up to sign him ahead of his contract expiring next summer, and Reading are among the current frontrunners.
