Leeds add Lukas Hornicek to shortlist as Daniel Farke certain over transfer

Leeds United are tracking Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek ahead of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old stopper is currently not a “top target” for the Whites, but he is part of a growing list of glovemen that are being considered as potential options for a move to Elland Road.

Daniel Farke is in no doubt that he wants a new goalkeeper added to the squad ahead of next season, even with veteran Karl Darlow in talks over a new contract to keep him at the club.

The West Yorkshire outfit are also keen on Shakhtar Donetsk ‘keeper Dmytro Riznyk, as they continue to assess their targets ahead of the window opening.

Leeds want additions to their squad across the board ahead of next term, but the goalkeeping department is an area of major priority after it caused them issues in 2025-26.

Daniel Farke ready for change at Leeds despite fresh talks

Football Insider recently revealed that Leeds are accelerating talks with Darlow over his new deal, to prevent him from departing the club as a free agent over the summer.

The Welshman has stepped up as a reliable figure for Farke and the team in recent months, after he replaced Lucas Perri as the number one in the second half of the season.

Perri struggled drastically after arriving from Lyon following the Whites’ promotion, and Farke is clear that further reinforcements are needed between the posts.

The talks with Darlow will continue irrespective of what happens in the transfer market in the coming weeks, but the boss has every intention of having a new number one at his disposal come the start of the campaign.

Darlow’s age means that he is no longer seen as a long-term solution at Elland Road, and that is set to force the recruitment team into action.

Hornicek and Riznyk are both firmly on Leeds’ radar at the moment, but the club are keen to keep multiple targets on the table for themselves.

Farke may step away from Leeds before next season

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that he “wouldn’t be shocked” to see Farke walk away from Leeds ahead of next season.

The German demanded backing from the club hierarchy at the end of the season, and is not content with the club just being happy to remain in the lower reaches of the Premier League every year.

Brown suggested that the boss has put himself in a strong position to be able to make demands regarding the squad, and added that he now clearly needs support from the 49ers.

He also suggested that the owners have to match Farke’s ambition, or they could potentially find themselves left in a “very difficult situation” regarding his future at the helm.
