Leeds agree terms of 2016-17 mainstay's exit - reliable journalist

By Harvey Byrne

Leeds have agreed to the terms of forward Souleymane Doukara’s exit from the club, according to a reliable journalist.

On Tuesday evening manager Thomas Christiansen confirmed that the 25-year-old was close to leaving Elland Road, stating “we reached an agreement” when asked about the future of the Senegalese forward.

Now, it would seem that, that agreement was his exit from the club after Yorkshire Evening Post chief football writer Phil Hay told his followers via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that Doukara’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent ahead of a switch to Turkish club Osmanlispor.

The reported termination brings the end of a three-year stay at Leeds for Doukara after he joined from Catania in the summer of 2014.

He has played 93 times for the Yorkshire giants in total, returning 18 goals and nine assists and last season he was a mainstay of the side under Garry Monk, playing on 39 occasions in all competitions.

However, since Thomas Christiansen’s appointment earlier in the summer he has failed to make each of Leeds’ match squads.

Football Insider verdict:

Doukara’s days were clearly numbered at Leeds under Christiansen, but it doesn’t make sense for the club to allow him to leave freely, rather than earning at least some sort of fee for the attacker. Yes, Leeds have made £15million from the sale of Chris Wood and money is no so much a problem anymore while under Andrea Radrizzani. However, any extra funds will also not be turned away and to see Doukara leave on a free while still being under contract for another year suggests there is more to the story.
