Leeds could seal 'amazing' Swift deal in January after Athletic reveal - pundit
Leeds United could sign in-form Reading midfielder John Swift in January amid an injury crisis at Elland Road.
That is the view of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about “a big month ahead” for the Whites in the transfer market.
Kalvin Phillips has undergone surgery on his hamstring and is expected to be out for at least two months.
As first revealed by Football Insider in April 2019, Marcelo Bielsa is a long-term admirer of Reading’s John Swift, 26.
A Leeds source has updated to reveal to Football Insider the club are continuing to keep tabs on Swift.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if a midfield signing was now a necessity in January, Campbell said: “Yes, I think they’ll have to go in for a John Swift or someone like that.

“January is gong to be so important for Leeds. They need to recruit wisely.
“Swift is have an amazing season at Reading. I think he could be one of two or three players who come in to bolster that squad.
“I know there is good youngsters coming through but this is the Premier League. You need proven quality. The players coming in need to be ready to fight.
“It is a big month for Leeds coming up.”
Swift has contributed eight goals and nine assists in 21 Championship appearances this season.
Phillips is set to miss Leeds United’s next eight Premier League fixtures.
He joins Pascal Struijk, Liam Cooper, Rodrigo Moreno, Robin Koch and Patrick Bamford in the treatment room.
