Kevin Phillips has made the huge claim he “firmly” believes Ben White will end up signing for Leeds United this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, the former England striker claimed that the defender will be eager to make a return to Elland Road next season after enjoying a hugely successful loan spell with the Whites last term.
As revealed by Football Insider, Leeds recently had a bid of around £30 million rejected by Brighton as they continue to pursue a permanent deal for the 22-year-old.
But Phillips is convinced that it is only a matter of time before Marcelo Bielsa’s men find a way of breaking the Seagulls’ resolve.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I do actually think he’ll end up at Leeds.
“I think nowadays the players have the power and I think he’ll push it because it seems that he wants to go there. He’s turned down, I gather, two or three contract offers from Brighton, so that suggests that he does want to go and move on.
“Having just spent a successful season at Leeds, he knows what a huge club they are. We all know that when supporters are allowed back in the stadium, it’s an amazing place to go and play football.
“Reading between the lines, I believe the player will try and push the move through. Leeds really want the player. The deal will get done, it’s just how it gets done. I firmly believe the lad will end up at Leeds.”
White established himself as a key component in Leeds’ promotion winning side last season, featuring in all 46 of their Championship matches.
The centre-back has made just two senior appearances for Brighton during his time on the south coast, neither of which came in the Premier League.
In other Leeds United news, the club have agreed a blockbuster new deal and an announcement is imminent.
