Michael Brown has made the shock claim Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa may already have “lost” new signing Jean-Kevin Augustin.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the ex-United midfielder revealed he’s been told Bielsa and Augustin are “tethering” amid tensions behind the scenes.
Augustin joined Leeds in the final week of the January window on an initial loan after his season-long loan to Monaco was cancelled at the halfway point.
There have been question marks about Augustin’s attitude, with the German media reporting that he was often late for training at Leipzig.
Bielsa revealed last week that Augustin was some way short of the fitness levels required to play for Leeds.
“He’s already, I think, tethering with Marcelo Bielsa,” Brown told Football Insider of the French striker. “So we might see a clash straight away, that we don’t even see him [playing] because Bielsa will not have it if you don’t conform to his ways.
“Augustin is not at the level of fitness and that’s going to be the one to watch.
“That could fall out with him and Bielsa because he probably didn’t agree with the manager’s reasons for him not to play to get him to that fitness.
“He’ll be saying: ‘Well I’m fit, I’ll give you 10, 20 minutes and I’ll nick you a goal,’ but has he lost him already?”
Augustin has come off the bench in the last three games against Bristol City yesterday, Brentford, on Tuesday night, and Nottingham Forest, the previous Saturday, after sitting out the first two matches following his arrival.
The French forward has yet to score or assist in his 48 playing minutes for Leeds to date.
