'Load of donkeys', 'Smash it' - Leeds fans rave over official reveal involving fringe figure

Leeds United fans have taken to social media to rave over the reveal that midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has been called up to the England under-20 squad for their friendly clash against Portugal.

The Whites confirmed via their official Twitter account that the 19-year-old, who has been on the fringes of the first team this season, received a late call ahead of Tuesday’s match, as he looks to add to the six under-20 caps he already has under his belt.

The versatile central star has been left as an unused substitute for the Whites’ last three games, having battled with tendinitis throughout the campaign, limiting him to just 24 appearances across all competitions, 20 of which have come in the Championship.

The Elland Road faithful were quick to turn to Twitter to congratulate the youngster on his call up, although a handful were questioning how he could be featuring for his country but not for his club.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

Vieira, who is a graduate of the club’s youth academy and broke into the senior side as a 17-year-old, has made a total of 63 appearances across all competitions for the Whites, scoring two goals and chipping in with three assists.
