Senior Leeds stars face uphill battle to rescue careers after club legend tears into Whites
When Leeds United legend Eddie Gray speaks about anything at Elland Road, people stop and listen.
The former winger is perhaps the most revered living member of the club’s history, having been an integral part of the squad over the 1960s and 70s, and also has a managerial spell under his belt.
His association with the club is still ongoing, through ambassadorial duties and matchday punditry, and as a result his opinion and verdict is respected more than most, perhaps even on par with the manager.
It is for this reason that so many of the current Leeds squad will be quaking in their boots.
Gray has gone on the offensive over the quality on offer at the Whites after their bitterly disappointing campaign, which has seen them floundering in mid-table, rather than fighting for the play-off spot predicted at the start of the season.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: “The club went for quantity and without being disrespectful, there are too many who haven’t shown enough quality.
“The results and the performances don’t lie. They suggest there’s some major work needed.”
It will have been clear to the Elland Road faithful that there are members of the senior side who simply do not have the talent to push for the aspirations the club has, and while some of those might be able to rescue themselves with their future potential or experience, a whole host of senior stars are facing an uphill battle to save their careers.
One man who would have been listening closely to Gray would have been manager Paul Heckingbottom, and the chances are he agrees with the club legend – and even if he did not, he would hardly risk speaking out against him.
The boss has to make some tough decisions come the summer, and another overhaul looks likely if players can be offloaded.
There will have already been a handful of stars on the list for the exit door, and after Gray’s comments, their job has just got a lot harder.
In other Leeds United news, fans must be baying for blood if Heckingbottom’s prediction comes true.
