Leeds fans react on Twitter to latest Charlie Taylor update

By Emma Sanders

Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter with excitement after Garry Monk revealed he made a promise with Massimo Cellino that no players would be sold in January, including Charlie Taylor.

The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from Elland Road and he has not featured in the last three games due to injury, increasing speculation that he could leave.

Taylor is being linked with a move to the Premier League in January with his contract due to run out in the summer and there has been no news of an extension at Leeds so far.

The defender was ruled out of the clashes against Preston, Aston Villa and Rotherham with an achillesdinjury but many fans believed it was a cover up during an on-going transfer saga.

However, Monk’s comments following the 4-0 victory over Rotherham on Monday evening has helped to calm the situation.

“Charlie’s been fantastic. Those things are out of a player’s hands. His job is to focus on football and he’s done that very well. The club went as far as making a statement (in the summer) and we had a promise between myself and the owner,” said Monk, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We spoke very honestly that players weren’t to leave. Charlie’s an important player for us and I don’t envisage any changes. We’re here to add one or two.”

Fans reacted positively to the Taylor update from the Leeds manager.

Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:

Taylor has been a crucial part of the Leeds side this season and he has made 22 Championship appearances as Monk’s side have climbed to fifth place.

He has graduated from the Leeds academy and is regarded as one of the most consistent players in the squad so he would certainly be a huge loss.

In other Leeds news, fans urge Monk to sign this defender following Monday development.
