Leeds fans urge Monk to sign showman after Monday development

By Emma Sanders

Pontus Jansson made his 20th appearance for Leeds on Monday, triggering a reported clause that means the club can now purchase the player for around £3.5m.

The defender played the full 90 minutes against Rotherham and it marked his 20th appearance for the club after joining on loan from Torino in the summer.

According to Sky Sports, Leeds now have the option to buy Jansson from Torino for around £3.5million.

Leeds fans on Twitter want the club to confirm the signing as soon as possible after the player has had a huge impact on their season to date.

Former Leeds player Andy Ritchie has also urged the club to make the move permanent in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“First up, sign Pontus Jansson permanently,” he said. “That has to happen. He’s the showman, the big link with the fans. His defending has been superb and taking him permanently is a no-brainer,” he told the Post.

The 25-year-old has been excellent since moving to Elland Road but his future has come under much speculation in recent weeks as it is still yet to be confirmed whether he will make the long-term switch.

Jansson has formed a terrific partnership at centre-back with Kyle Bartley, who is also on loan from Swansea and they have been crucial to Leeds’ play-off hopes.

The Whites currently sit in fifth place in the Championship table following the win against Rotherham, a full five points ahead of seventh placed Derby.

In other Leeds news, these three players should all sign for the club in January.
