Leeds United fans have turned to social media to express their shock after it was claimed that Paul Heckingbottom had axed Felix Wiedwald in place of Bailey Peacock-Farrell against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.

The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay, a reliable source of information surrounding the Whites, has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the manager has brought the 21-year-old goalkeeper into the starting XI for just his second ever senior appearance for the club.

The decision comes after regular first choice Wiedwald suffered a difficult night at the Riverside Stadium during the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough, in which he looked unconvincing throughout and was to blame for the second of Patrick Bamford’s three goals.

Peacock-Farrell was named as the substitute goalkeeper for the clash in the absence of Wiedwald’s senior counterpart Andy Lonergan, who is out with injury, and Hay’s report states that he is set for his first Leeds appearance of the season, having been left on the bench seven times during the campaign.

Fans were left stunned by the claim on Twitter, and despite many supporters having urged Heckingbottom to bring in the youngster, many more have been left unhappy with his decision.
