Leeds’ replacement for Joel Piroe looks like it could be Zian Flemming at Burnley

Leeds United are expected to be among the clubs exploring a move for Burnley striker Zian Flemming this summer.

The Dutchman has enjoyed a fine campaign for the Clarets, scoring his 10th Premier League goal of the season on Sunday in a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.

With that goal, the 27-year-old has become the first Burnley player since Chris Wood in the 2020-21 season to net 10 top-flight goals.

Flemming’s side have already been relegated, with Premier League sides bound to have taken notice of his success.

Leeds transfer chiefs are expected to be among them, with competition sought for Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.

Zian Flemming impresses again vs Aston Villa

Football Insider exclusively revealed in March that Leeds are set to sell Piroe this summer as they prepare to bring in a new forward.

Flemming has provided a good case that it should be him, although it is unclear how much Burnley will demand.

The Clarets signed the 27-year-old in 2024 on an initial loan with an obligation to buy reportedly worth around £7million.

The relegated club will undoubtedly want at least double that, but they are unlikely to want to stand in Flemming’s way.

His goal on Sunday was taken with a superb finish into the bottom corner, leaving Emi Martinez with no chance. He could have had another, too, getting five shots off throughout the game.

The Dutchman did his defensive work, too, winning four tackles and five duels on the day. It was an old-school striker’s performance from a player who certainly knows where the goal is.

Flemming has already made his summer wish clear

Flemming’s achievement of becoming the first Burnley striker since Wood to score 10 Premier League goals is made even more impressive by the teams they played for.

The Clarets stayed up in the 2020-21 season, and finished the campaign with six more wins and 18 more points than they currently have.

And there’s more – Wood featured in 33 Premier League games that season, starting 32 games, while Flemming has started just 19 in 27 appearances amid bouts of injury and competition.

The former Millwall striker has put up seriously impressive numbers, and he has made it clear that he wants to stay in the Premier League.

“The Premier League has left me wanting more,” he told Dutch outlet Voetbal International last month. “I would like to play there for years to come.

“It feels a bit surreal, but the top three in the Netherlands is not a step up at the moment. The Champions League, competing for the title: that certainly is.

“But the Eredivisie offers, with all due respect, much less resistance than the Premier League. I don’t know, and I’m not ruling anything out. But don’t say: that is a dream move either.”
