Report: Leeds line-up shock move for PL enforcer, want permanent deal

Leeds United want to sign Everton defender Matthew Pennington on a permanent deal at the end of the season, according to a report.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claim that Pennington has impressed manager Thomas Christiansen despite a stuttering and stop-start season.
This will come as a shock to Leeds fans after the on-loan player has been restricted to mainly fleeting cameo roles this season, but that belies how Pennington is viewed by the Leeds hierarchy.
Pennington came on after Liam Cooper’s dismissal in the game against Millwall on Saturday and changed the complexion of the game.
“You saw Pennington in the second half,” Christiansen said.
“He did well and you couldn’t see that he hadn’t played for a long time or that he had come back from injury.
With Cooper out for four games, Pennington will now get his chance at Leeds but the club are sure that he would be a “shrewd investment”.
Football Insider verdict:
It’s been a tough season for Pennington after he was injured in the very first game of the Championship campaign. Since then he’s made another 11 Championship appearances but only five of them have been starts. However, despite that Leeds see him as a solid centre-back and want to make his season-long loan deal permanent. There is no option to buy in the deal so it will now depend on how Sam Allardyce views Pennington. He has plenty of cover in that area so it might even come down to what pennington thinks and whether he wants to fight for his place at his boyhood club. We think he would be a big asset for Leeds and look forward to him showing it over the next few weeks – weeks that will be key for Leeds’ promotion push.
