Leeds United target Andre has committed his future to relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers, despite interest from the Premier League.

It was announced on Friday that the 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him remain at Molineux until 2030, in a surprising turn of events.

Andre looked to be among the players almost certainly set to leave following relegation to the Championship, considering his quality.

The Brazil international has been linked to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, as well as Daniel Farke’s side, ahead of the summer window.

Leeds transfer chiefs will hope that the new contract includes some sort of release clause, although it appears unlikely, considering that his previous deal ran to 2029 anyway.

Leeds United will have to look past Andre

Leeds were reportedly considering a £35million bid for Andre ahead of this summer, with an all-action midfielder high up on Farke’s list of targets.

The future of Ao Tanaka still remains up in the air this summer despite his recent run of performances, and Ilia Gruev has a long-term injury.

There have also been slight injury issues for Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach, too, while Sean Longstaff appears to have fallen out of favour completely since his own return.

Considering Wolves’ situation, Andre looked to be the ideal candidate for Leeds to add genuine quality and energy to their midfield.

The 24-year-old has missed just three Premier League games this season and has been a shining light in a dismal campaign, offering brilliant defensive numbers and certain ability on the ball.

The move made sense for Andre, too, handing him a route straight back into the Premier League for a team that could easily start competing for Europe. The only outstanding question was about the fee Wolves would ask for.

With that, Friday’s confirmation that the midfielder has committed his future to the relegated club has come at significant surprise.

Who are Leeds linked to instead?

The latest link in midfield appears to come in the form of 24-year-old defensive midfielder Tanner Tessman,

The American is with Ligue 1 club Lyon and will go to the World Cup this summer, with any potential move likely to come after.

Tessman is under contract until 2029 and would reportedly be available for a fee in the region of £21m, making it a slightly cheaper deal for Leeds if they pursue it.

The positive signs for fans of the Whites is that decision-makers at Elland Road appear to be well aware of the priorities this summer, with work already underway.
